SYC Learn to Sail Instruction

Intro to Sailing (3 hours of group instruction) 2 to 3 people per class.

Intro to sailing, launching, rigging, and the basics.  Classroom brief, launching and retrieval, rigging and de-rigging demonstration.  Instruction on the water where the goal is to have participants sail the boat themselves.  Instructor is on board for lessons.  Course can be taken multiple times, until participant is comfortable enough to move to the next level.  Course can be taught on either Flying Scots or J22.

Boat Handling and Sail Trim (3 hours of group instruction) 2 to 3 people per class

This class is aimed at sailors who already have a basic knowledge of sailing and want to continue to the next level. Before registering, sailors should be comfortable sailing at a basic level (or have successfully  completed the Intro to Sailing course). Curriculum includes advanced sail trim, spinnaker sailing, basic navigation and will be tailored to the interest of the group. Course will be taught as a combination of classroom and on-the-water instruction in Flying Scots or the J22. sailboat.  Instructor is on board for lessons.  Courses can be taken multiple times, until participant is comfortable enough to move to the next level.

Intro to Racing (3 hours of group instruction) 2 to 3 people per class
Not scheduled at this time.

Basic rules and tactics, courses, starting procedure, mark rounding, rules of racing.  Class will include time in the classroom as well as on the water.  Instructor is on board for lessons.  Lessons may be taught in Flying Scot, J27, or J22.  Course can be taken multiple times.

Racing Intermediate/Advanced (2.5 hours of group instruction) 2 people per class
Not scheduled at this time.

Advanced rules and tactics, goal is to coach during active racing in the Twilight Racing series on Friday nights.  Instructor is on board for Lessons.  Class to be taught in the Flying Scot.

Private Lessons

Those looking for a more personalized level of instruction can request private lessons.  Lessons and course material structured to cover specific items, moving at a pace that works for you.  Available for individuals and couples.

Friday Night Sunset Cruise Experience
 

Ride along for a sunset cruise on the SYC J27 Miss Mary Ellen, with the option to take a hand at as little or as much sailing as you desire.  This is a minimal instruction experience, participants are welcome to just enjoy the ride if they choose.
