Resolute to the End, Southern Yacht Club Claims 2017 Rolex NYYC Invitational Cup
NEWPORT, R.I. — The morning may have dawned with dense fog and little breeze on Narragansett Bay, but by mid-afternoon the sky had cleared and the same could be said of any ambiguity regarding which was the best team at the 2017 Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup. In today's single race, the Southern Yacht Club was as sharp as they had been in the previous 11 races, starting strongly and never wavering.

SOUTHERN wins Rolex NYYC Invitational Cup
NEWPORT, R.I. — (9/16/17, 5:30p CDT) In an extremely gratifying, if somewhat anticlimactic, starting sequence in the final Race 12, SOUTHERN held a solid leeward position as Royal Sydney YS struggled to find the front row. SYC extended to the left was able to cover RSYS from several places ahead for the entire race. Despite keeping an eye solidly in the rear view mirror, SYC posted yet another second place on a remarkably consistent scoresheet. RSYS finished in 8th place. SYC is the 2017 Rolex NYYC Invitational Cup champion! Click thru for past updates.

Fledgling cat program hits the big time
CORPUS CHRISTI, Tex. - Four teams of SYC catamaran sailors traveled to the 2017 U.S. Sailing National Youth Championships this month. This was by far the biggest test yet for these juniors, as they have only been sailing their Nacra 15s since spring. Team dads Johnny Lovell and Sid Charbonnet, who won the Youth Nationals together in 1984, have been shepherding the SYC Junior program back towards the national stage. Click thru for video and more.

Southern Nichols Cup Regatta
It took from 2006 to the last race of the last series in 2017 for Southern Yacht Club to lose the Southern Nichols Cup team regatta. But it finally happened the weekend of March 18-19, when St. Francis Yacht Club came from behind to win the seventh race of the gold series and take the first-place trophy someplace besides SYC.
