Meric to represent GYA at Mallorys (Updated) 
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Meric and crew completed thirty-four races in 4 days at the US Adult Championship for the Mallory Trophy, hosted by the St. Pete YC. The team advanced to the final round, but did not place in the top finishers. However, the team was recognized by their peers with the Sportsmanship Award. Click thru for more info.

LPRC's Red Jacket goes to SYC's Tim Molony 
SLIDELL, La.—Tim Molony helmed his slate-blue GP26 LUCY to first place in every race for the class win and earned the coveted Red Jacket Award in this year's Lake Pontchartrain Racing Circuit. Dieter Hugel's TIGI TOO also won her class with all bullets in the Racer/Cruiser division. The seven-class LPRC fleet was composed of nearly half SYC entries and enjoyed seasonably cool weather and steady breezes for this Fall classic. Viper NAs kick-off in Fort Walton - Update 
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla.—Marcus Eagan, Andrew Eagan and Jackson Benvenutti won the 2017 Viper NAs in a narrow finish, with five of the top six boats posting a Z-flag penalty during the hard-fought regatta. Patrick Ryan, with crew Norman Vallette and Langston Goldenberg, placed ninth. Click thru for more info.

SYC sailors in the money at VX One NAs 
HEATH, Tex.—Skipper Boo Heausler and crew, Jackson Benvenutti, took fourth place in the VX One North Americans sailed at Rush Creek YC. The team stayed relatively clean in the 26-boat fleet, scoring one bullet and six top-ten finishes in nine races. Local ace Bill Draheim took the title. Click thru for results.

SYC sailor in Clipper Round the World race 
PUNTA DEL ESTE, Uruguay - SYC member Dr. James Cole is fulfilling a life-long dream by crewing in two legs of the eight-leg Clipper Round the World Race. Leg 2 started on October 4th and should finish in Cape Town South Africa around October 19th. Click thru to follow the race.

SYC wins 10th straight Challenge Cup 
PENSACOLA, Fla. - SYC has extended its winning streak at the GYA Offshore Challenge Cup with an unprecedented tenth straight overall win. This year's event saw the return of some true offshore racing with a long steeplechase course which sent the fleet out of Pensacola Bay to a rounding mark in the Gulf. Click thru for more.

Jackson Cup Team Race Regatta 
MARBLEHEAD, Mass. - SYC was well represented last weekend at Boston Yacht Club's Jackson Cup Team Race Regatta. SYC tied for first until the final series, and came home with third place trophies.

Southern Nichols Cup Regatta 
It took from 2006 to the last race of the last series in 2017 for Southern Yacht Club to lose the Southern Nichols Cup team regatta. But it finally happened the weekend of March 18-19, when St. Francis Yacht Club came from behind to win the seventh race of the gold series and take the first-place trophy someplace besides SYC.

Thomas Kerrigan wins the 2016 USODA Midwinter Championship 
Congratulations to Thomas Kerrigan of Southern Yacht Club, winner of the 2016 USODA Midwinter Championship! 265 Optimist sailors competed over Thanksgiving weekend from around the country as well as Canada, Peru, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the Virgin Islands. Emily Alfortish finished 15 overall and several of our SYC sailors had top ten finishes! Great job to Team SYC and special thanks to coaches Diego and Foco! Thanks also to our Regatta Committee, the SYC Board and Staff, and Allstate Sugar Bowl for continuing a great tradition at Southern Yacht Club.
