RESULTS

UPDATE:  Randy Smyth's Farrier 25C trimaran, YO!, has smashed the Gulfport to Pensacola Race course record with an elapsed time of 6h:44m:02s.  This is over three hours faster than the previous record set in 2015.  Gene Walet's 23-year-old monohull record, set aboard SAGA, a N/M 68, was bested by four boats led by John Dane III's WAR CANOE (Melges 32) with an elapsed time of 8h:23m:09s.  The overall corrected time winner is Benz Faget on Doug Dovie's MacGregor 25, EVIL INTENTIONS.

ROUGAROU wins fifth GYA Friedrichs Trophy

GULFPORT, Miss. — Burt Benrud's Melges 32, ROUGAROU, has represented SYC in the last ten GYA Challenge Cups. In five of those years, she has won Class A and with it, the Buddy Friedrichs Trophy — most recently this year, skippered by Johnny Lovell (pictured with Burt and crew). Unfortunately, New Orleans YC fielded a strong team and was able to end SYC's ten-year winning streak of overall Challenge Cup victories. Click image for results.

"NEW"-GAROU wins light air affair

GULFPORT, Miss. — Johnny Lovell skippered Burt Benrud's upgraded Melges 32 to victory in this year's Race to the Coast. A light forecast prompted the RC to delay the start and move it down the course to the entrance of The Rigolets. But light air remained the theme of the day and the fleet spent the first hour just trying to get through the Highway 90 bridge. Steve Montagnet's FIDELIS II of PCYC won Class B. Commo. Brierre Tops Mandeville Race Fleet

Guy and Pam Brierre sailed their Newport 41, MYSTIC, to overall victory in this year's edition of the Lake Pontchartain classic, posting third-place finishes in both legs of the race. Rob Rogers' KIDS IN THE CAR won the sport boat division and Eric Aschaffenburg's GREAT ESCAPE had the lowest aggregate elapsed time.

ISLA MUJERES, Mex. — ATLANTIC UNION II, a Beneteau First 44.7 owned by Paul & Rachael Gillette of Pensacola YC has won the racing and monohull divisions of the 30th Regata al Sol. Ryan Finn's 36-foot custom proa, JZERRO, was first-to-finish and took the overall and multihull wins. Robert Kiegel's Pearson 424, ACADIA, topped the cruising division.
