Class A winner ROUGAROU passes DEMITASSE (Class C) on the way to the finish line.

Team SYC has won the 2017 GYA Offshore Challenge Cup which marks the tenth year in a row that SYC has won this event.  ROUGAROU (Melges 32) with Andy Lovell skippering won Class A; TRIPLE D’s (Melges 24) with Dwight LeBlanc, III skippering was third in Class B; DEMITASSE (J/27) with Commodore Scott Sonnier skippering was fourth in Class C; and FAST COMPANY (J/22) with Boo Heausler skippering was third in Class D.

All of the crews are to be commended for their dedication to SYC and all of their efforts put forth in connection with this event, which is the premiere PHRF competition in the GYA. The event was held at Pensacola Yacht Club on June 23-25, 2017 where the sailing conditions were ideal for the first two days of the event, however, culminating in bad weather on the final day causing the abandonment of the remaining races.

Cumulatively, the SYC team finished three points ahead of Mobile Yacht Club with Gulfport Yacht Club finishing a point behind Mobile. The competition was tough with ten teams being present, five in the four boat division and five in the three boat division.
