Marcus Eagan is on a roll

SYC's Marcus Eagan has spent the last year sailing very fast.  In the last nine months, he has won three world championship titles in established international classes, two as crew and one as skipper.

In October of 2013, Eagan won the J/22 Worlds as tactician for sailmaker Allan Terhune.  Al and Marcus were friends and fierce competitors from the Lightning and Flying Scot classes, where they forged a mutual respect that led to their successful collaboration.

Similarly, Eagan and past Rolex Yachtsman of the Year Bill Hardesty were locked in a battle for the overall win at the Melges 20 Worlds in December of 2013.  Hardesty, crewing for John Taylor, prevailed for the overall M20 title, but Eagan, with his all-family crew, would be crowned Corinthian World Champion by taking an excellent second place in the heavily pro event.

Again, the friendship forged in battle between Bill and Marcus led to their collaboration for the Etchells Worlds.  After sailing various warm-up events in Bill's Etchells and training together for ten days just prior to the event, the team won the world title in June of 2014.

Eagan says a successful Worlds campaign takes about six months of focused preparation.  He doesn't have any immediate plans for another Worlds event, but his reputation should get him off the sidelines sooner than later.
