Hinman Masters Team Race
SYC fielded a team of 12 sailors for the 2016 Hinman Masters hosted by NYYC and sailed out of Harbour Court in beautiful Newport , RI. The skippers were Commodore Scott Sonnier, Johnny Lovell and Dwight LeBlanc III. Crew were John Alden Meade, Beau LeBlanc, Wendy Kerrigan, Sid Charbonnet, Bruce Levy, Karey Haslauer, Shelby Friedrichs, Benz Faget and Christian Gambel.

Ten teams from some of the most prestigious yacht clubs in the country participated in this three-on-three team race where skippers must be at least 45 years old and crew at least 40. With the exception of "young gun" team racing ace, John Alden Meade, the aging SYC team easily exceeded the age requirements. As more and more team racers age into eligibility for this event, the competition gets tougher and tougher each year.
After a mediocre 8 win, 8 loss record in the first two round robins, SYC was in seventh place but only 2 points out of second. With five teams all bunched within 2 points the final standings would be decided on the final day. SYC finally found its form going 5-1 in the final Gold round robin jumping from 7th to 3rd and missing second by only one point to St Francis Yacht Club.
Noroton Yacht Club dominated the regatta suffering only one loss over the weekend, but it was team SYC delivering that loss!
All in all a great result and a fun event with great sailors and a great host in NYYC.
