Invitational Cup title defense proves to be a tall order
UPDATE: NEWPORT, R.I. — Team SYC wrapped up the 2019 Rolex NYYC Invitational Cup with a strong closing day, placing third in the final two races. After struggling early, Southern was able to claw back to fifth place for the regatta, just one point behind fourth place. The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron was by far the most consistent team, posting just one double-digit finish to win the Cup. Second place San Diego YC was the early regatta leader and won the most number of races, but couldn't quite match the Aussies' consistency. Royal Cork YC and Royal Canadian YC rounded-out the top four. Click thru for results.

NEWPORT, R.I. (Sept. 12, 2019) — At the halfway point of the 2019 Rolex NYYC Invitational Cup, Team SYC is still within reach of a come-from-behind victory to successfully defend their 2017 title.  And what a reach that would be!  The level of talent at this event is particularly unforgiving of mistakes and bad luck – and SYC was beset by both in the early races.  Even their best race so far ended on a frustrating note.  In Race 4, after leading the fleet around every mark, a wind shift dropped the team to fourth place just a few hundred meters from the finish.  Follow the action at the links above.
