Southern Yacht Club is pleased to issue this Notice of Race and Entry for the third annual Southern Nichols Cup, which will again be a MASTERS EVENT (see NOR for details). The Southern Nichols Cup is named for former New York Yacht Club Commodore Nichols, and was gifted by NYYC to Southern Yacht Club in 2005. We are pleased to join together again to promote the exciting discipline of team racing throughout the country. Southern Nichols Cup Revised NOR and Entry Form
The City of New Orleans has graciously allowed us to temporarily store boats in the parking lot just to the west of West End Park in the area of the old Fitzgerald’s and Brunings from March 7 through March 28. However, all boats must be moved back to the SYC dry storage area on the weekend of March 27 and 28 or SYC will issue fines.Furthermore, please be advised that neither the City of New Orleans nor SYC accept any responsibility or liability.Security is at your own risk. This parking lot is not regularly maintained and may contain certain defects and hazards and it is up to each individual boat owner to decide whether or not the area is suitable and accept all responsibility for any damage and/or liability.
Summer Camp 2010
Registration will
open March 1st for 2010 Summer Camp. Check back to this page for the link to online registration (much
easier than last year). This year we will be offering two week sessions
that run daily Tuesday-Friday 9AM to 3PM. Camp is open to children ages 8+. Sessions cost $300 for members and $400 for sponsored guests. The dates are as follows:
"Due to the J/22 Midwinters, all boat owners with boats in the Dry
Storage Area are requested to remove their boats by the afternoon of
Sunday, March 7th. They may bring their boats back after Sunday March
14th, but will have to remove them again by Sunday March 21st for the
Flying Scot Midwinters. Boats may return Saturday, March 27th."
"When will the harbor restoration be finished and the boats back in? ...
I believe it
will be in the second to third quarters of 2011."
This is the first of what will be a series of short (at least after
this one) articles, by John Manard, president of the Municipal Yacht
Harbor Management Corporation, on what is happening with the recovery at
West End. The focus here is on the instrumentalities of change and the
broad directions. Future articles will focus on what is hot then.
